Last week we were invited to Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, where they have a new Imagination Playground to celebrate their 30th anniversary. It was the perfect opportunity for a day out and have another go at a vlog.
One of my blogging friends at Teddy Bears and Cardigans had recently been and Santi loved watching videos of her grandson trying out all the exhibits, so he was super excited when I said we would be going too. If you’re from South Wales it’s almost guaranteed you will have been to Techniquest on a school trip, but if you haven’t, it’s a science discovery centre with an amazing 160 interactive exhibits. For a toddler a lot of them are quite advanced, but there was plenty to keep our two-year-old entertained and he could have stayed for hours.
When we first arrived it was a bit overwhelming as there were three schools on day trips – it was bedlam. We had a little look around, but after around 40 minutes we decided we would have to leave and come back a bit later on – we had wristbands so we could come and go as we pleased, which is really handy. They do have toddler specific mornings, so maybe we should have timed our visit to coincide with one of those – we know for next time now.
When we got back it was so much calmer. We almost had the place to ourselves, so we could try everything out. For Santi, the sure fire winner was the water run where you put counters into a river and try to get them through a series of obstacles. He spent ages there and was pretty wet by the time we left!
He also loved the walk-on piano, and a pipe that sucked ribbons in before shooting them up in the air. The Imagination Playground was also fab – there are hundreds of foam shapes that you connect together to create anything you like. Santi made an ambulance – well, when I say he made it, I think it was more or less done and he just jumped in it! It was like an educational soft play area.
My favourite exhibit was one that has been there since I was in school. I just love these photos of the boys been served up for dinner…
I didn’t have a chance to check out the cafe – usually my favourite part of a day out – but we did have a good look around the shop! There are loads of lovely things that would make great gifts. From really cute animal watches and bath toys, to Roald Dahl books and prints, and all reasonably priced too.
Techniquest is in a fab location in Cardiff Bay, so we made the most of the fine weather to have a walk around. We showed Santi the old canons, watched the boats and went for lunch at Nandos.
We’ve made a video of our day, so have a watch and let us know what you think – I’d love it if you could subscribe to our channel too 🙂
