I FEEL like I never get a chance to dress up anymore, and usually end up throwing something old on when we do have an occasion to dress nicely, but a couple of weeks ago one of my best friends was getting married, and I was determined to find something new to wear for her special day.
With no time to actually go to the shops, I ended up scouring the internet – originally for a top and skirt combo, but eventually realising it would be far easier to just buy a dress. Asos had so much choice that I ended up buying three dresses and a top … isn’t that always the way?! At least I met the criteria for free next day delivery.
I should have taken photos of them all, but the first dress I tried was way too big and looked awful, and the top didn’t quite meet the waistline of my skirt so that was an instant no too. Thankfully, I really liked the other two dresses and was torn between which to wear.
I went for this one … a prom dress in a scuba material. I loved the scallop neckline and the floral print, which I think is colourful enough to get away with wearing white to a wedding.
The dress cost £50, and while I think that’s pretty reasonable I decided not to splash out on new accessories too. I used my trusty Mulberry Margaret bag, which I absolutely adore. It’s inspired by Princess Margaret and has a gold crest with the motto “we believe in tea and cake”, which is perfect for me! I bought it a few years ago at Bicester and uhmmed and ached over it for so long because of the price. I have no regrets now though, and use it for most special occasions.
My shoes are also a couple of years old and are from Dune. I very rarely wear heels these days, but I find these super comfortable. I did buy some new jewellery, but only cheapies from H&M. I wore this simple circle necklace, and a pair of rose gold studs.
I just need another occasion to dress up now! If you like this dress, you can find it here
And in case you were wondering, this was my second choice dress, which is also from Asos and cost £45:
